INTRODUCTION TO DARKLORD

Darklords are an Archetype consisting of Dark/Fairy Monsters. These monsters can be separated into 3 groups: Low Level Darklords / High Level Darklords / Unique Darklords. Additionally, the archetype contains a handful of useful Spells/Traps.

Low Level Darklords: These cards are your Normal Summons, however they will also trigger on Special Summon. They tend to function as consistency & support pieces as they are usually adding cards to your hand, sending cards from your deck to the GY, facilitating Tribute Summons, or Chain-Blocking for your important effects.

High Level Darklords: These usually have two different effects

  • A Hand-Effect, often discarding a “Darklord” card for some benefit.
  • A Field-Effect, which can copy the effects of an archetypal Spell/Trap in the GY as a Quick Effect.

These are the soul of the deck and they create a play-style of setting up your GY, then using the GY to establish board presence, or disrupt your opponent. Darklord decks can often empty their hands very quickly as a result of this play-style.

Unique Darklords: These are cards whose effects do not fit thematically into the first two groups, but who still play key roles in enabling the deck to function at its highest potential. These cards include effects such as: Special Summon from the Hand or GY, Special Summon from the Deck, gaining LP, or destroying the opponent's field.

Darklord Spells / Traps: These can all be activated from your hand or field, and then copied by a High Level Darklord, enabling you to gain their effects twice in a single turn. The Spells provide support for the deck, such as searching for any Darklord card or summoning Darklord monsters from the GY. The Traps provide the deck with non-targeting disruption of our opponent, either by stealing their monsters, destroying them, or negating their effects.

Deck Overview

Branded Darklords can be viewed as an evolution of Despia Darklords including <component id="53"/> / <component id="54"/> and their associated support cards. With them we can easily end on a non-targeting banish disruption while filling our GY with any Light or Dark Monster for additional plays. Ideally this will be in the form of <component id="55"/>. It can also be more versatile, sending <component id="56"/> for <component id="57"/> / <component id="58"/> plays, or <component id="59"/> to search. The prefered end-board will be <component id="60"/> + <component id="61"/> + <component id="62"/>, banishing any Normal Summon, preventing Special Summoning, and making Fairy Monsters untargetable. Remember the effect restriction from <component id="63"/>.
